Rhino: Gold / Silver Ring

Today we are going to be creating a 3D ring, accurate to a specific ring size.
  1. Begin by opening Rhino and selecting "Small Objects Millimeters".
  2. Select the "Circle" tool
  3. Enter 0,0 and press Enter
  4. Enter a ring size by using the chart (the mm for each ring size is indicated)
  5. Click the "Circle" tool  again
  6. Enter 0,0 and press Enter again
  7. Enter the outer ring size to set the thickness of the ring and press Enter.  Usually this is 2-3 mm more than you entered as the ring size.  When you have finished, you should have two circles.
  8. Do a CTRL+A (Select All)
  9. Do a CTRL+C (Copy)
  10. Do a CTRL+V (Paste)
  11. Drag the selected circles up a couple millimeters (in the front or side viewport).  This will be the width of the ring.  In the render example (right) you can see two gold rings with different widths.
  12. Do a CTRL+A (Select All) again to select all 4 circles.
  13. Type "Loft" and press Enter.
  14. Select "Tight" in the pulldown bar, and check the box that says "Closed Loft".
  15. Press Enter -- and you should have a ring.
Next we will add a reflective surface to your ring.
  1. Open the Material > Basic setting
  2. Select a base color for your ring (black if you want a silver/chrome finish or gold if you want a gold finish)
  3. Add a gloss of 50
  4. Under the Environment setting, add the reflecting sphere (below) image.  This will give the effect of shiny chrome.
  5. You can adjust the "Intensity" of the "Environment" to allow the color to come through.  For example, in the sample image above I turned the Intensity down to 50% so the gold shows, but I still get the reflection quality.
